The Performing Arts & Humanities building is home to multiple performance spaces easily accessible from adjacent parking Lot 8 and Lot 9.

Venues


Earl and Darielle Linehan Concert Hall

Located at the Main Entrance of the PAHB on the 2nd Floor, the Linehan Concert Hall is a medium-sized orchestra hall which resonates beautifully with any ensemble. It is well suited for large choral, instrumental, chamber music, and other acoustic performances. It also easily accommodates conferences, lectures, and special events. At 365 seats, this is the largest hall in the PAHB.

Proscenium Theatre

Located at the southeast corner of the building in the first floor Atrium, the Proscenium Theatre is a 250-seat theatre that presents large-scale theatrical and dance performances throughout the year. This full height stage house features 51 line sets, front of house catwalks, a forestage grid, and a complete complement of lighting, sound and projection equipment.

Dance Cube

Located on the third floor of the PAHB, this venue is one of the most highly-requested spaces in the building. With two glass walls, retractable risers seating 100 persons, marley flooring, and a full theatrical lighting grid, this space is ideal for dance performances with intricate lighting cues. The incredible view of downtown Baltimore and abundant natural light make this space highly desirable for banquets, receptions and special events.

Black Box

The Black Box Theatre is located at the center of the PAHB on the first floor. Seating up to 100 people, this intimate theatre is a venue, workshop and classroom space for the Theatre Department, hosting several productions per year.

Studios


Music Box

Located on the first floor of the PAHB on the west side of the building, the Music Box is a flexible and intimate space for classes, rehearsals and performances, seating approximately 70-80 people. This space also hosts the UMBC Gamelan ensemble, and their instruments live here year-round.

Theatre Rehearsal Studio

The Theatre Rehearsal Studio (TRS) is an excellent flex space for classes, rehearsals, conferences and small performances. With a sprung floor, this can also be an appropriate space for some styles of dance. Depending on the seating style, this room can host up to approximately 80 people. With its plug and play AV system, the TRS is an ideal space for medium-sized conferences and hybrid meetings.

Acting Directing Studio

The Acting Directing Studio (ADS) is a small classroom space perfect for intimate rehearsals or meetings.

Dance Technology Studio (DTS)

Located on the second floor of the PAHB near the Concert Hall, the Dance Technology Studio is a fantastic rehearsal space for many styles of dance, with marley flooring, baby grand piano, and large-scale projection.

Additional Spaces


Lecture Hall (PAHB 132)

The 120-seat Lecture Hall is located on the first floor of the building and features a plug and play AV system with an optional wireless mic or lavalier microphone. Each chair in this auditorium style hall features a foldable desk, making this a perfect space for lectures and workshops. This space is booked and maintained by Event and Conference Services.

Atrium

Located at the east entrance to the PAHB, the Atrium features ceiling height glass windows, a view of the Sculpture Forum, and a communal lounge area with armchairs and table seating. The Atrium is the primary lobby for access to the Proscenium and Black Box Theatres and is frequently used as registration or reception space. It is also home to the PAHB Box Office.

Terrace Lobby

Located on the first floor of the PAHB at the rear entrance to the building (via Lot 9), the Terrace Lobby provides ADA access to the Concert Hall’s orchestra seating, as well as easy access to the Music Box and Lecture Hall.

2nd Floor Lobby

Located at the primary entrance to the PAHB, the 2nd Floor Lobby welcomes guests to the Linehan Concert Hall and Dance Technology Studio. It can serve as a check in or registration area for events in the adjacent venues.
