PAHB House Rules

The Performing Arts and Humanities Building (PAHB) at UMBC welcomes all to our spaces to enjoy world-class recitals, stimulating dance and energetic, new theatrical performances. To ensure an enjoyable time for all guests, keep a few details in mind:

 

Children and Safety

  • Parents and guardians are responsible for their children at all times. Noise, excessive movement and other disruptions or safety hazards as a result of behavior may result in removal from the venue.

Food and Beverages

  • Food and drink are prohibited in PAHB performance venues. Only re-sealable bottled water is permitted inside event spaces.
  • All other drinks and snacks should be consumed or put away prior to entering our facilities.
  • For your convenience, vending machines are available on the 1st floor next to the Black Box Theatre.
  • Our spaces are new and well-maintained. Thank you for helping us maintain a dignified space for all to enjoy!

Injury, Illness and Emergency

  • Please stay home if you are suffering from cold or flu symptoms. Your comfort as well as that of our guests and staff are of the utmost priority. Contact the box office (pahbboxoffice@umbc.edu) for a refund or to reschedule.
  • Please alert staff if you are feeling ill and need emergency services dispatched.
  • A first aid kit is on site for minor cuts and scrapes. Depending on the extent of any injury sustained on site, an incident report may be taken.
  • In case of an emergency in the venue, please follow all instructions given by front-of-house staff. Our venue can have several different types of events taking place at once that could involve smoke, fire, etc., so we encourage you to take all alarms seriously and cooperate with any evacuation orders.

Late seating

  • Proscenium Theatre, Linehan Concert Hall, Music Box, Dance Cube: At appropriate intervals determined by the House Manager, late arrivals may enter performances to seats that will least disturb the performance and other guests. Please be alert to any updates from the box office at any performance you plan to attend.
  • Black Box Theatre: There is no late seating at this venue.

Lost Items

  • There is no official lost and found for the building, however, abandoned items are sometimes brought to the Box Office by ushers after an event or later in the week by custodial services. Feel free to email pahbevents@umbc.edu or call 410.555.2080 to inquire about an item.

Payment

  • All PAHB venues are cashless. All credit and debit cards are accepted. Unfortunately, we do not accept ApplePay or Samsung Wallet at this time.

Photography and Recording

  • There is no flash photography or recording permitted in any venue.
  • Please note that the PAHB is a public space with several entrances and exits. We advise guests with minors to exercise an appropriate measure of caution in letting them move about unattended.

Service Animals

  • In compliance Americans with Disabilities Act, only service animals are permitted in all venues to assist guests with disabilities. Any other animals for any other purpose are prohibited in PAHB spaces.

Smoking

  • The Performing arts and humanities building is a smoke free facility. Cigarettes, Vapes and other smoking products are not allowed in or around the building.
